With that said—
I am writing this from the comfort of my bed, in the middle of the afternoon because, I have been slammed by a nasty summer bug. I don’t get sick often, and am unused to having the rug pulled out from under me like I’ve experienced in these past couple of days. Normally I give cold like this a couple of days of inactivity and then get on with things … but this time, nope! I was shown who is boss.
Yesterday EPI and I were set to head to the summer house, which happens to be free this week, and for a change we were expecting excellent weather (this summer has been disappointing so far). He was going to stay for a couple of days, and I would spend the week. However, I had a hunch I wouldn’t be well enough to do all the necessary things, and I was right. So I put it off until today … got up this morning and started assembling and packing everything I/we would need, and by early afternoon, when I was around 2/3 done … I totally ran out of gas. Like, my body refused to move. I had to lie down and capitulate to the fact that I did not have any extra reserves of energy to drive up there, unload the car, unpack everything, make the bed, and all the little things you have to do, even with EPI along. So now my front hallway is packed with all the stuff that was supposed to be loaded into the car, I am here in bed typing this letter to you, and EPI is watching the soccer on TV.
🤷♀️
If you’ve been following my social media you may also know that, in May, EPI and I went up there to say goodbye to the place, as it has been put up for sale. My father and his wife own it with two other couples, and one of the owners passed away this winter, so they have decided to sell. It was bittersweet—my father and Vilborg, his wife, have generously allowed me (and others in the family) to use the place whenever they have not been there themselves (which has been most of the time—they rarely go), and we have enjoyed many, many wonderful stays there. Especially me—I have used it a lot because in contrast to most others I have flexible working hours, and indeed, have used the place to get away from everything precisely so I can work. It is a writer’s dream if you need solitude to work (as I do). I have written parts of all my books in that summerhouse, plus my BA thesis, and have made friends with all the nearby horses, even watching some of them go from babies to full-grown.
Yet sadly all good things must end, and it was put on the market in May … but, it has not yet been sold, so until it does, we still have the privilege of enjoying it. Which is exactly what we had planned to do this weekend.
Still, the week is not over, and I may get there yet!
