Letter from Iceland #86
Little Book of Icelandic "stressing out, plus an Icelandic invasion" edition
It’s a short one today as I am currently in France, getting ready to celebrate my stepdaughter Ólöf Auður’s wedding. 💓 She lives in Caen, Normandy, with her French partner Aurelien and their two little boys. The whole extended family is here—a full-blown Icelandic invasion.
We are staying in a little Airbnb right by the sea in northern France, where we are lulled to sleep by the ocean waves. I mean, how cute is this?
And how glowing is this couple?
Yesterday, Thursday, they had a notary ceremony, whereas the actual wedding is tomorrow, Saturday. Apparently this is a thing here, to have two ceremonies. Or maybe it’s just them. 🤷♀️
Anyway, Little Book of Icelandic* time! Today we’ll take a look at why Icelanders sometimes pronounce English words funny. Hint: it’s all about the emphasis.
PS! We have another eruption back home, as of last night. The last time we were in France, an eruption started, as well. Do I sense a pattern? 🤔
