1. You bring your own towel, or you can rent one at the pool
2. In 99% of cases pools will have lockers with keys, but if you pay for a pass to a gym that is connected to a pool you'll likely have to bring your own lock. The exception is the odd pool outside of Reykjavík which may not even have lockers, only hooks for your clothes. In that case you would leave your valuables in the reception.
Alda, thank you. As an Icelander I get furious when I see people disregard our common sense rules. If there is no one to tell people to take off their swimsuit before showering, I do it without hesitation. 😉
I remember the last time we were there (when we met!) I was definitely shower-surveilled by a staff person in the locker room of the pool. They tried to not be obvious about it but oh yes they were checking.
I absolutely respect these swimming rules, in fact I have passed this info on to others here in the US. Sadly it is not a custom or rule here, offered, but optional, hence I do not partake in this activity.
As a newbie visiting Iceland in September, I have two questions:
1. Do you bring your own towels or are they provided by the establishment?
2. Are these keyed lockers with keys provided by the establishment or do you bring your own lock?

Gahh - didn’t realise there was such an risk!
You won't be able to unsee it now. Sorry!
You didn’t mention the wonderful spinny thing in the corner that miraculously dries your swimsuit
I didn't mention it because I never use it because I'm afraid of getting crabs 😱
This set off quite a set of discussions and has also clearly educated some people:

Yess! Glad to see it, the more widely this information is spread the better.
