A funny thing happened on the way to the cottage
On worthiness, water leaks, and family lineage
Hello! 👋 I’m Alda and I write (mostly) about Iceland and Icelandic affairs. I have written a bunch of books that delve into various aspects of Icelandic culture. I am also a passionate advocate of indie publishing and the empowerment it brings. These days I’m delving a lot into the collective history of the Icelanders through the stories of my ancestors and how the events of the past play out in modern Iceland. I’m so glad you’re here!

It was brought to my attention this week that the discount coupon to get $100 off the price of my Going Indie course was not working—which turned out to be entirely my fault because I didn’t know how to properly work the hosting platform. 🙈 So I have extended the discount until July 15. Just use the coupon code JUNE25 at checkout.
I am writing this from the sofa in my new summerhouse that I CANNOT BELIEVE IS MINE. It’s been a dream for so long that now that it’s actually happened it feels quite surreal.
Much has gone into making this happen, as I noted last week.
But it’s not only hard work, taking risks, etc. There is also the mental shift. I know this sounds a lot like manifestation woo-woo, but I needed to believe myself worthy of this. To let go of a scarcity mentality, and to trust that if I take this leap (and invest all my savings) that everything will be okay.
I know that so much of what we achieve in life is limited by our thinking, which in turn is created by our mental programming.
And if you’ve followed along on my other blog, you’ll know that I recently did some therapy that revolutionized the way I see myself and had a massive impact on my mind and soul.
Even so, it’s like my brain is still lagging just a beat behind, and I keep having to mentally pinch myself that it’s really happened.
Also, I think it’s pretty damn significant that this new place I have bought is just a few kilometres from where I was conceived (yes, I know where … approximately) and also where my great-grandmother Þórdís was born, whose story has had such a huge impact on my life as it has been passed down through my family lineage.
Anyway. Just some musings on a Saturday.
Oh, you want pictures? Coming right up, but they’re paywalled because, well, privacy.
